Hello guest,
My name is Shannon Kamal, and i would love to be your barber. It didn’t take long to fall in love with cutting hair as i was put on the spot to perform one hot summers day. While on vacation my haircut was admired by a young man who wanted to duplicate my style. He went on to ask if it was possible for me to create the cut on him. Me being young and stupid trying to impress onlookers i said “yeah sure”! Why did i say that? before i can recant he proceeded to walk out the bathroom with his dads clippers!
Oh NO! I better learn how to cut with clippers, AND fast. I tried to weasel out of it by telling him he’d need permission from his folks before i can proceed. Parents agreed! Oh boy better try and pretend as if the conditions are too dark and nowhere to do it. Apparently he was accustom to home cuts because he produced a bright lamp and a chair that fit in the bathroom next to 2 outlets ready to distribute power. I’m hooked with no where to go and i now have to learn how to cut with clippers.
Now i have been getting haircuts at home my whole childhood so i was familiar with turning them on and preparing them. I remembered the motions my dad would make when cutting my hair so i mimicked those actions. As i stood there sweating from pure nervousness, i realized i’m achieving the blend to satisfaction. a calm comes over me and i began to produce the haircut to the young man’s satisfaction. a bald fade with a dark top! Took me about 1.5 hrs to complete. To be quite honest as I think back on it i’m sure it was a terrible cut by professional standards.
However, I pulled it off leaving him oh so thankful and excited which bought me joy to know i brightened his day with a haircut.
My return home was delightful with a newfound interest in tow. Cutting hair! My next trip to the mall produced a purchase of a set of andis Pivot Pro clippers and T blade trimmers. From there i began to cut my own hair along with my younger brother and his neighborhood friends, That began my journey to become a barber, and today i am thankful to have made the choice.
Each haircut presents a learning experience for me to grow my knowledge in men’s hair styling. I am far from my career goals as i will share later with you all what they are. I find barbering to be relaxing and a joy. From wet shaves, to full service haircuts creating a look for an individual on a bi weekly basis is an honor to hold such responsibility. There was a time where barbers were dentist, surgeons, and a figure of esteem. Although we are no longer performing medical procedures we are still therapist as we are shoulders to lean on and ears to confide in. I enjoy being a barber and I want to be your barber! feel free to stop in and present me a challenge while i give you a pleasant experience.
Thank you for stopping by,
Shannon Kamal
